"It set the scene really well when you start the year with “it’s about your wellbeing”. It is important to show your staff where your values are. 

It was really easy to deliver. I had the notes and the PowerPoint and then adapted the slides for what I felt the staff needed at that point.

It was good for people to look at it and understand where the stresses in their life were coming from (whether it was at home or at school) and what they had control over and what they didn’t. It was also interesting to see where people were scoring themselves on resilience."


Why should schools do the survey?


"It is really easy to administer and the results come back to you in a format that is really easy to share with staff and governors.

It is easy to push wellbeing aside and say I don’t have time for that at the minute or I need to make sure I get everyone in and they’re being tested. As a leader it is easy to underestimate the importance of staff wellbeing. I have been in schools before where the headteacher is scared to do a staff wellbeing survey because of what the results might say but actually if you don’t know, you can’t do anything about it. So I think in terms of the survey, having the feedback with you and even if we got negative feedback, because we had the Welbee training there is something to follow it up with. 

I think not knowing for me is worse than the dealing with the issues that could come out of it. I think when you ask people about wellbeing, a lot can come out of it which you don’t know what to do. People have the wrong idea of what wellbeing is but we are all responsible for our own wellbeing.

This has to be high on the Governor’s agenda to ask the head what they are doing for staff wellbeing and making them accountable for it."
